I work for this amazing charity called Tofauti as trustee on the board helping with strategy, planning and development.
Tofauti help African rural communities and wildlife to build resilience and thrive together, so lots of projects for protecting species and helping rural communities with infrastructure like fences and water provisions. Charity set up and run by Rio Olympics Team GB women’s hockey gold medal winner Crista Cullen, who’s brilliant, Kenyan born and lives there today so very much on the ground making good things happen.
We are running the first of what will be an annual fund raising event/project called ‘Together For Water’, which is all about asking people in UK+ to commit to clocking up some miles on foot, pedals, swim or whatever to help raise money for creating new water provisions for rural communities in Africa, mainly in Kenya but also beyond.
By provisions we mean locally owned water dispensing machines that are piped into wells that provide water to local communities and stop what are almost always women and children from spending 12hrs every day just collecting water, and instead spending that time to more productive purposes for their families and communities.
Tofauti is on the ground to build long term solutions, rather than a UK NGO swanning in dropping something and buggering off, instead these provisions are locally owned infrastructure and built to last. Full details on this website.
Aim is to collectively clock up 6,000 miles between Sept 5th and Oct 4th, the distance from UK to Kenya. Every mile clocked up running, on bike, etc is a mile African women and children don't have to walk every day to fetch water, something we just get out of a tap.
Huge appreciation for any support you can give, it all counts. 😎
